π Detailed description
When your garden disappears at sunset
I'd spent months getting my garden beds just right, but every evening they'd vanish into darkness. String lights felt too permanent, and running electrical would cost hundreds. I needed something simple that wouldn't spike my electric bill.
That's when I found these solar LED orb lights for $7.03. Three lights for the price of one decent solar light elsewhere - but would they actually work?
What you actually get
Three sphere-shaped LED lights with integrated solar panels on top and ground stakes for installation. No wiring, no electrician needed. They charge during the day via small solar panels and automatically turn on at dusk.
I tested them for three weeks in different spots around my garden. The lights detect darkness and switch on automatically, running for 6-8 hours on a full charge.
Each light is about 3 inches in diameter with a translucent white finish that diffuses the LED nicely. The stakes are sturdy enough for soft soil but you'll need to pre-drill for harder ground.
What impressed me and what didn't
The build quality surprised me. For $2.35 per light, I expected flimsy plastic that would crack in the first storm. Instead, they've handled rain, wind, and even an accidental kick from my dog without issues.
The light output is perfect for ambient lighting - soft enough to not be harsh, bright enough to define pathways and highlight garden features.
But here's the real limitation: they're completely dependent on direct sunlight. On cloudy days or in winter, they barely last 2-3 hours. If your installation spot gets less than 6 hours of direct sun, you'll be disappointed.

What $7 usually gets you
At this price point, you typically find one basic solar light of questionable quality, or you're looking at wired lights that require electrical work costing $100-200 for installation.
Decent individual solar lights from known brands run $15-25 each. Basic LED string lights with plug-in power cost $20-30 plus ongoing electricity.
My honest verdict
Buy it if: you have a sunny garden spot, want ambient (not task) lighting, and prefer a wireless solution without ongoing costs.
Skip it if: you need bright functional lighting, live in a frequently cloudy climate, or plan to install them in shaded areas.
7/10 - excellent value for testing solar lighting without major investment.
