I tested this 1080p door camera - here's my honest verdict

The problem with traditional peepholes

I was tired of having to physically get up and peek through that tiny, distorted view every time someone rang the bell. Working from home, interruptions matter. I needed something smarter but wasn't ready to spend Ring-level money on a full doorbell system.

What you actually get

This Tuya camera replaces your existing peephole entirely. The 1080p resolution is genuinely sharp - you can actually make out faces clearly. The two-way intercom lets you talk to delivery drivers without opening the door. Motion detection triggers alerts on your phone, but only when someone approaches closely, not every time a car passes.

The installation uses either 3M adhesive or screws, depending on your door type. Multiple screw lengths are included for different door thicknesses.

What surprised me and what didn't

The motion detection impressed me most. Many cheap cameras trigger constantly, but this one stays quiet until someone actually approaches your door. The night vision works well enough to identify people in complete darkness.

However, the included cable is only 20cm long. This is genuinely annoying if you have a thick door. I had to source a longer cable separately, which should have been mentioned prominently.

The Tuya app integration works smoothly with Google and Alexa, though setup took a few tries to get the WiFi connection stable.

What $50 usually buys you

At this price point, you typically get basic no-name security cameras or digital peepholes with tiny screens. This offers actual 1080p recording, smart home integration, and a reliable app experience. Similar featured products from established brands easily cost $80-120.

Ring and Nest options provide more features but cost double or triple, plus require subscriptions for cloud storage.

Buy it if: You want to see who's at your door without moving, live in an apartment or standard home, and already use smart devices.

Skip it if: Your door is unusually thick, you need included cloud storage, or you want premium brand support and warranty.

My honest take: 7/10. It does exactly what it promises, just be prepared for the cable situation.
