Why I started looking for better LED lighting
I was tired of cheap LED strips with visible hotspots that made my desk setup look amateur. I needed something for ambient lighting behind my monitor and TV that would give clean, uniform light without the typical dotted appearance of standard LED strips. I wasn't expecting to find a decent solution for $2.71.
My honest experience with this COB strip
This COB (Chip on Board) LED strip connects via USB and includes an inline touch controller for brightness adjustment. The key difference from regular LED strips is the uniform light emission - no individual LED dots visible, just smooth, continuous illumination.
Installation was straightforward. It comes with 3M adhesive backing that sticks well to clean surfaces. The USB cable length (about 5 feet) gives decent flexibility for connecting to computer ports or wall adapters.
What surprised me was the light quality. It's noticeably more professional-looking than standard LED strips in this price range. The touch dimmer is responsive - you press and hold to gradually adjust brightness levels.
The 5V USB power requirement is actually convenient. It works great with power banks for temporary setups or anywhere you have USB power available.
What works and what doesn't
The good stuff:
- Uniform light output with no visible hotspots
- Touch dimmer that actually works reliably
- Low power consumption, works fine with power banks
- Cuttable to custom lengths at marked intervals
- Strong adhesive that stays put
The real limitation:
It's single-color only (warm white). If you need RGB or adjustable color temperature, this won't work. Also, while the adhesive is strong, very textured surfaces might need additional mounting hardware.

What $2.71 usually gets you
At this price point, you typically get LED strips with visible individual LEDs, cheap controllers that fail quickly, and inconsistent light output. I've tested several "budget" options that died within weeks.
This COB strip competes with products selling for $10-20 locally. The COB technology used to be limited to much more expensive professional lighting.
Should you buy it?
Buy it if:
- You need clean accent lighting for desks, TVs, or mirrors
- You prioritize smooth light over color effects
- You want something simple that runs off USB power
- Budget is tight but you don't want obviously cheap-looking results
Skip it if:
- You need RGB colors or variable color temperature
- You're planning permanent outdoor installation
- You need more than 6 feet of continuous lighting
My take: 7/10. For the price, it delivers surprisingly good results for basic ambient lighting needs.
