The problem with budget wireless earbuds

Most earbuds under $50 exist in a frustrating middle ground. They are not bad enough to return immediately, but not good enough to actually use every day. What surprised me was the microphone performance. The K20i uses a dual microphone setup with AI noise filtering, and on calls it actually filters ambient sound with reasonable effectiveness. BassUp technology adjusts bass response in real time. It does not produce the exaggerated low end of gaming headsets, but for bass-forward music it adds noticeable warmth without sounding processed. Now for the limitation I will state plainly: passive noise isolation is weak. Because the earbuds do not seal the ear canal, ambient sound bleeds in freely. On a quiet commute or at a desk, this is fine. On a subway, in a busy kitchen, or anywhere with sustained background noise, you will hear your surroundings. If you move up to $80 to $100, you enter Sony WF-C500 or Nothing Ear territory — better passive isolation, more polished software, and a step up in overall audio refinement. That is a legitimate upgrade, but it is roughly double the cost.

For what the K20i asks, the value is honest.

My honest take: the Soundcore K20i is not a revelation, but it delivers on the things that matter most at this price — battery life, call quality, and comfort over long sessions. The semi-in-ear design is a real trade-off, not a minor footnote, and it should drive your decision. If that trade-off works for your use case, this is one of the more honest purchases you can make under $50.
