The sneaker repair problem nobody talks about
Most of us have done it: held onto a pair of shoes well past the point where a cobbler would laugh at you, watched the sole peel away a little more each week, and eventually either threw them out or spent more on a repair than the shoes deserved.
I was in that situation with a pair of running shoes - good ones - where the forefoot sole had started separating. The fix looked simple but I had no faith in the usual tube of super glue from the hardware store. That stuff works on paper but tends to go brittle on flexible surfaces.
I came across this shoe repair glue on AliExpress almost by accident. At around $1.50 a tube, the downside risk was basically nothing. Here is my honest take after using it.
Honest Review
The glue itself is thin and liquid, which feels counterintuitive for a repair product. You expect something thick and paste-like. What this actually means in practice is that it flows into tight gaps and seams that a thicker glue cannot reach - genuinely useful for the kind of partial sole separations where the damage runs deeper than the edge.
Application is straightforward: apply a thin layer to both surfaces, press firmly, optionally use a hairdryer for a minute to accelerate the initial bond, then leave it under pressure for 24 hours. I used a stack of books. The result after curing was solid - no flex, no give at the repair line, and after a month of normal use including rain, the bond has not moved.
The glue dries completely clear and flexible. That matters if you are working on light-colored soles or anywhere visible. No yellowing, no stiff patch, no white crust. It just disappears into the repair.
Here is the limitation worth knowing: this is a surface adhesive, not a structural filler. If your sole is cracked through, delaminating across a wide area, or the foam itself is breaking down, this glue will bond what is there but it cannot reconstruct damaged material. It works well for the most common failure - separation at the edge or toe box - but it is not a miracle product for severely deteriorated footwear.
What you normally get at this price
At $1.50, your standard options are a small tube of cyanoacrylate (super glue) or a generic contact cement neither of which is designed for flexible rubber or leather. Super glue goes brittle under flex and tends to fail in cycles of compression. The generic contact cements do better but they often discolor and leave a visible residue.

This product is formulated specifically for footwear materials: rubber, leather, canvas, EVA foam. That specificity shows in the result. It stays flexible after curing because it has to - shoes bend thousands of times. That is the core difference between this and what you pick up at a pharmacy.
For comparison, a cobbler charges anywhere from $8 to $20 for a sole rebond. That is a reasonable service, but for a straightforward separation on a shoe you like but do not love, spending $1.50 and ten minutes of your own time is a genuinely sensible alternative.
Buy it if... Skip it if...
Buy it if:
- You have sneakers or casual shoes with a separating sole that you are not ready to replace
- You want a fix that stays invisible - clear finish, no residue
- You are repairing leather, rubber, canvas, or foam-soled shoes
- You want to keep a tube around as a maintenance item for future repairs
Skip it if:
- The sole is structurally broken rather than just peeling away from the upper
- You need a guaranteed long-term fix on work boots or heavy-duty footwear that takes serious daily abuse
- You are hoping one small tube will cover multiple full sole repairs (it might not - consider the two or three pack)
My honest take: this is one of those purchases where the price makes the decision easy. It does exactly what it says, it does it cleanly, and it costs less than a coffee. If you have shoes worth saving, this is the practical first move before writing them off.
