The Search for a Versatile Gaming Microphone
I'd been using a basic USB microphone that made me sound like I was broadcasting from inside a tin can. The problem wasn't just quality - it was flexibility. I wanted something that could grow with my setup without forcing me to replace everything when I eventually upgrade to an audio interface.
The FIFINE AmpliGame AM8 caught my attention because of its dual USB/XLR connectivity, which is uncommon in budget gaming microphones.
What Actually Impressed Me (And What Didn't)
I tested this microphone for over a month across gaming sessions, video calls, and content recording. The dynamic capsule genuinely performs better than expected - it picks up voice clearly while rejecting background noise more effectively than most condenser mics in this range.
The build quality surprised me. The metal base feels substantial, and the RGB lighting looks clean rather than gimmicky. The proximity mute button works as advertised, and having both USB and XLR outputs means you're not locked into one ecosystem.
However, that proximity mute can be annoying. It triggers when you gesture near the microphone, which happens more often than you'd think during animated gaming sessions or presentations.
What $39 Usually Gets You

Most microphones at this price point are either USB-only basic models or XLR-only mics that require an interface. The Audio-Technica ATR2100x-USB offers similar dual connectivity but costs nearly double. The popular Blue Yeti is USB-only and, being a condenser mic, picks up more room noise.
The AM8's value proposition is that flexibility - you don't have to choose between convenience and upgrade potential.
Should You Buy This Microphone?
Buy it if: You're serious about gaming or streaming, want room to grow into professional audio gear, deal with background noise in your recording space, or appreciate RGB aesthetics that don't look cheap.
Skip it if: You need the absolute best audio quality from day one, the proximity mute concept annoys you, or your budget allows jumping straight to high-end gear.
My take: 8/10. It's the microphone I wish I'd found when I started taking audio seriously.
