π Detailed description
The charging situation I didn't realize was annoying me
After two years of using Apple's original charging puck, I'd gotten used to the routine: untangle the cable, plug it in, hope the magnetic alignment clicks right the first time. It worked, but it felt unnecessarily fiddly for something I do every night.
When my original charger started showing wear on the cable, I went looking for alternatives and found this tiny Baseus magnetic charger for $6.26. I've been testing it for six weeks.
What you actually get
This is a 35mm aluminum disc that delivers 2.5W charging through a USB-C connection. It's compatible with every Apple Watch from Series 1 through the newest Series 10, including SE and Ultra models. The magnetic attachment is strong - my Series 8 snaps into place immediately with a satisfying click.
Build quality feels appropriate for the price point. The aluminum housing doesn't scratch easily, and the included 1-meter USB-C cable is reasonably thick. At 50 grams, it's about half the weight of Apple's charger.
What I found after extended use
The charging speed surprised me - it matches Apple's official charger almost exactly. My Series 8 goes from dead to 80% in about 90 minutes, which is what I was getting before.
The compact size is genuinely useful. It takes up minimal desk space and travels well - I can toss it in any bag pocket without thinking about it.
But here's the limitation you should know upfront: the 1-meter cable is shorter than Apple's 1.2-meter cable. If your nightstand setup requires the extra length, you'll need to buy a longer USB-C cable separately.
What $6 usually gets you in Apple Watch chargers
At this price point, most options are generic knockoffs with weak magnets or overheating issues. I've tried a few that barely held the watch in place.

Baseus has an established track record with charging accessories, and it shows. Apple's official charger costs $29 - nearly five times more. Third-party options from known brands like Anker typically start around $20.
Should you buy this?
Buy it if:
- You need a backup charger for travel or office use
- Your original Apple charger is wearing out
- You want to try wireless charging without spending $29
- You have power outlets close to where you charge
Skip it if:
- You need faster than 2.5W charging speed
- Cable length under 1.2 meters won't work for your setup
- You require official Apple MFi certification
- You're looking for premium build materials
My take: 7/10
This does exactly what it promises without fuss. It's not fancy, but it works reliably and costs a fraction of the original. I'd buy it again.
Price: $6.26 (was $14.99)
